PURASAIWALKAM, CHENNAI

HOUSE V

Project under construction

Mr. Vivek Trivedi and his family approached for designing his dream house in a budget frame. The design was challenging since the area of the site was only 640 Sq.ft. & it is located in Purasaiwalkam, Chennai, where the houses are constructed in the wall to wall basis.

The clients were completely under the concept of sustainability. So, we suggested them to go with used furniture and panels that can be added to the house from antique shops. The doors, windows, facade panels were carefully chosen from warehouses. These products were removed from demolished traditional houses across India.

Adding them to the new houses does not only add beauty but also life to its own. Since the family was tree lovers, we added plants to a part of the facade also.  The MS frames with mesh and vertical greening highlight the double-height area of the sitout. Other places are left as plastered to give the rustic effect.

With the usage of natural materials, giving enough openings for ventilation and lighting, providing ample of greeneries, reusing the old carved wooden panels and furniture, we achieved sustainability.
